The Worst Fitness Strategy Ever
The Perfect Time Will Never Come. Stopping Waiting For It!
“I’ll start over on Monday.”
“I’ll just wait until the holidays are over.”
“I will figure it out when life slows down.”
Do any of those sound familiar to you? When it comes to our nutrition goals, we tend to wait for the “right time” to start. On a Monday, when work is less busy, when the holidays are over. But reality is, there is no right time. Life isn’t going to just stop. There will always be work to be done, events to attend, and holidays will continue to come around.
Waiting for life to get easier is a terrible fitness strategy.
So what do we do when we have nutrition goals, but it feels like life just keeps getting in the way?
We simply make the decision to just start. We acknowledge that there is no right time, and if we actually want to make progress, the first thing we have to do is meet ourselves where we are and take one step forward. We have to focus on creating habits, systems and identities around our nutrition goals that serve us no matter what season we are in.
If this feels like you – if you feel like you’re waiting for the right time to achieve your nutrition goals (which never seems to come!), here’s what I want you to do. Read through the following list and pick one action that you feel confident in doing consistently:
- Eat protein at every meal
- Add in 1 fruit and 1 vegetable to your day
- Meal plan/prep for the next day or week
- Drink an extra bottle of water
- Track your food intake
Get really good at that action until it becomes a habit and then pick another one to focus on and repeat. This helps you collect wins, build momentum and experience success, and our brain sure does love that! And guess what, success breeds success!

And here’s the kicker, when life gets busy or holidays roll around, or you have a fun weekend indulging (because it IS going to happen to all of us), instead of throwing in the towel or feeling like you have to start all over again on Monday, you are just going to go right back to the habits you worked hard at building because it’s what you do and who you are. You won’t have to start over because you never truly stopped!
Imperfect action beats perfect inaction every single day of the week!
Remember this – what you do MOST often is what produces your results. Not what you do occasionally, but what you do consistently. Take that first step today – your future self is already thanking you!
